2011 Free Clothing Giveaway on December 4

The National Council of Jewish Women/LA ~ Community Counseling and Support Services and Council Thrift Shops (www.ncjwla.org) presents the 2011 Free Clothing Giveaway. Select from thousands of pieces of clothing for women, men and children, and chidren's books. Stop by the tables at the community resource fair.

The event will be held Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. rain or shine in the NCJW/LA Parking Lot located at 543 N. Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90036 (1 block south of Melrose at Clinton). Street parking available in the surrounding area.

Please note the following: No suitcases, backpacks, or bags allowed; bags will be provided for you and your family; Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Sneak Preview of the Film “Education Revolution” Will Be Held on January 9, 2012

On January 9, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Autry Museum, Jay Nolan Community Services along with the Tarjan Center at UCLA and the Special Needs Project will be hosting a sneak preview screening of Dan Habib's new film, "Education Revolution." This is a very exciting film about the inclusion of children with a wide range of emotional, mental health and other challenging behaviors to be included in school and community life.

In addition, Habib's award winning film entitled "Including Samuel" will also be shown. There will also be an opportunity for discussion with the filmmaker.

There is no charge for this event, but seating is very limited and participants must call to confirm their attendance. The preview will take place at the Autry Musuem - Wells Fargo Theater, which holds only 200 people.

Festival of Human Abilities at the Aquarium of the Pacific on January 28 and 29, 2012

Join the Aquarium of the Pacific for its 9th annual Festival of Human Abilities on Saturday and Sunday, January 28 and 29, 2012 at the Aquarium located at 100 Aquarium Way in Long Beach. Experience live music, signing choirs, art demonstrations, storytelling, service dog demonstrations, and other creative performances featuring people who have disabilities. Participate in free classes led by artists with disabilities. All major programming will have sign language interpreters for guests who are deaf, and the Aquarium will provide audio tours for guests who are blind. Extra elevators and assistance dog relief areas will be available to the public.

You can also sign up for bulletins about a specific topic, such as legislative issues, or bulletins specific to a certain age, disability or area, by providing us with additional information. No information collected will be given to anyone outside of Lanterman; it’s just for the purpose of sending targeted e-mails to the Lanterman community.

There are many events, including valuable trainings and workshops, we at the Center hear about, but due to limited financial resources, we cannot mail flyers for each of these events.
