Flu Season is Upon Us ~ There is No Better Time Than Now for Your Annual Flu ShotBoth colds and flu are infections of the nose, throat and lungs and are caused by viruses - germs that are not killed by antibiotics. Colds usually begin slowly, lasting 2 to 7 days, starting with scratchy or sore throat, sneezing, runny nose and cough. The flu begins with a sudden headache, dry cough, aching muscles and extreme fatigue. Good hand washing will help prevent the spread of both cold and flu germs. Remember, if you have a cold or the flu, antibiotics will not work for you. A yearly flu shot is the best way to protect against the flu. September 21: Young Adulthood and Sexuality ~ For Parents of Young Adults Ages 16 to 25 Lanterman Regional Center presents Dr. Michelle Roland from Childrens Hospital Los Angeles who will be adressing the topic of young adulthood and sexuality. The presentation is scheduled for Friday, September 21, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Lanterman Regional Center. October 11: Transitioning from High School Using Assistive Technology Webinar The third workshop in the 2012 Assistive Technology Workshop Series hosted by Lanterman Regional Center and ATEC will feature representatives from local public and private agencies. They will discuss the continuation of AT services beyond high school. Panelists will be present to discuss their agencies’ responsibilities and services regarding AT in the transition process. The one-hour webinar workshop is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, 2012, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., and will provide anyone interested in learning more about assistive technology and transition from high school, including people who use AT (ages 14-22 years old), parents, caregivers, case managers, family members, therapists, educators, and professionals who support transitioning students, with greater knowledge and resources. The workshop will be presented via webinar and in-person at Lanterman Regional Center. October 12: Baby Play Days for Children Birth to Two Years of Age Come and join the Koch-Young Resource Center and Pasadena Child Development Associates for a monthly play day for children birth to two years of age and their parents. Enjoy access to KYRC toys and play equipment, while getting to know other families. October 18: Building Speech Skills ~ Strategies for Parents to Improve a Child’s Speech & Language Lanterman's Koch-Young Resource Center and Pasadena Child Development Associates present a two-hour workshop for parents to learn how to promote their child’s speech skills. Gain ideas you can incorporate in daily life and playtime with your child who is between the ages of birth to 5. Learn how to build off of your child’s interests and your family’s regular routine to motivate and support your child in finding his or her voice. The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Lanterman Regional Center.
